2. Dorset, Devon & Cornwall

When VW campervanning in Southern England the West Country is everyone’s favourite, beautiful beaches, coastal walks, pretty villages, relaxed atmosphere and a great range of campsites. It’s where the majority of our campervan hire customers head to so can be busy, the sites below generally will be quiet unless indicated.

Camping at Trevose Head in Cornwall

2.0 Corfe Castle

Stunning with its ruins, a quaint but often busy village with several inns and tea rooms makes a good base.  The excellent Swanage steam railway is a blast from the past.

Two excellent campsites here: the well located small Corfe Camping and Caravan Club site in a nearby woodland and the busier and lovely Norden Farm, with farm animals and peacocks loose.

2.1 West Bay, near Bridport, West Dorset
Matt Likes: It’s very close to the river; an easy walk to the pretty fishing village of Westbay and the dramatic Southwest Coast path.

Or alternatively the Bingham Grange campsite is in a similar location to Britt Valley but is Adults only.

2.2 Steamer Quay, Totnes, Devon
Matt Likes: Ideally located by the river close to the centre of lovely Totnes with its medieval streets and independent shops and cafes. This busy well catered Caravan club site makes a good base for exploring Dartmoor, South Devon or an overnight stop to Cornwall.

2.3 Heligan Park, Heligan, Near St Austell, Cornwall
Matt Likes: It’s a short walk to one of England’s nicest gardens (The Lost Gardens of Heligan), nearby Mevagissey is a quintessential Cornish touristy fishing village, the campsite is quiet and secluded. Also Eden Project is fairly close by.
