Camper Van Hire Principal Terms
(These do not constitute full terms and conditions, which are included in the hire agreement at hire pick-up)

Summary Terms of Business and Cancellation Policy

1. Your booking is secured when your 25% deposit payment (or payment in full if within 6 weeks of hire commencement date) has cleared. If due to unforeseen circumstances on the hire day we are unable to hire you an identical vehicle to your booking you will be offered a full refund, but we cannot be liable for other holiday costs including campsites and ferries.

2. Payment in full is required within 6 weeks of the commencement date, otherwise we cannot guarantee vehicle availability.

3. Refunds of 75% of full fees are available up to 28 days prior to the hire start date. After that no refunds are allowed.

4. A no smoking policy applies inside our vehicles. A deduction of £100 will be made if smoking traces are found.

5. The hirer will inform us in advance of pick-up of European travel (which includes Republic of Ireland, Switzerland and all European Union countries). Additional fees apply to cover insurance and vehicle breakdown assistance. Failure to do so will result in loss of deposit. Please note our vehicles are fitted with Tracker devices.

6. The vehicle must only be driven on sealed roads except within a registered campsite.

7. The interior of the van and all cooking equipment and utensils used should be cleaned (wiped, swept and vacuumed) before return and the outside and any racks or equipment cleaned. Failure to return the van clean will lead to a £100 deduction. A cleaning deposit of £100 is taken on hire day.

8. The vehicle should be returned with a full tank of diesel fuel (assuming that it was provided full).

9. The vehicle shall be returned by the agreed time on the final hire day (which will not be more than 24 hours after pickup for each hire day) otherwise an additional £25 per extra hour will be charged.

10. On collection, all drivers are to provide an original full driving license. The hirer must also provide an additional original proof of address, such as a bank statement or utility bill.

11. Parking fines, speeding charges, tolls and congestion charges received by Active Kampers must be reimbursed along with an administration charge of £25 in each case.

12. Carriage of pets must be agreed in advance, and is an optional extra at cost of £50, failure to do so could result in the loss of your deposit. As pet hair is difficult to remove from our lovely new vans, we ask for an additional pet cleaning deposit of £100 (returnable subject to conditions).

13. If you leave your car with us it is entirely at your own risk.

14. We reserve the right to change the hire pick-up time, without changing the booking, if you do not turn up within an hour of your agreed pick up time and fail to notify us beforehand.

15. Our Insurers impose the follow conditions:

a. An excess of £500 of which a deposit of £700 (also covering £100 each for fuel and cleaning) will be taken at hire commencement. If your hire is three weeks duration or less we can take a “Pre-Auth” by Debit or Credit card like a hotel and the money is not actually deducted from your account unless there is an issue (e.g. damage on return). In the event of any damage to either the vehicle or third party property, the hirer will be liable up to this amount. The hirer will also be fully liable for replacement or repair of windows, tyre and loss of keys.

Hirers and each driver:

b. Must be aged 25 or over, but not older than 70 (contact us for exceptions as we may be able to agree these with our insurers).

The following persons are excluded from driving (key exclusions only see full hire agreement):

d. Persons who have been convicted of an offence in connection with the driving of a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or have had their driving license endorsed or suspended or penalty points imposed. Parking and not more than two speeding offences in the past 3 years may be ignored. “Spent” convictions, covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 may be disregarded.

e. Persons who have any mental or physical defect or infirmity or suffers from fits, diabetes or any heart complaint.

f. Persons who have had their insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or special insurance terms imposed as a result of claims experience and/or have had their insurance or cover cancelled by any Motor Insurer.

g. Persons who, whilst driving, have been involved in more than one accident during the past 3 years.
